What is the best color to wear for engagement photos? ›

Choose light, soft, neutral tones.

This is totally a personal preference, but my style of photography lends itself best to lighter, airier tones — like white, beige, and taupe — and pastels — like dusty blue, blush, etc. I find that neutral outfits are so romantic and timeless, and help to keep the focus on you!

For me it's about 80-100 fully edited images. My typical Engagement Session goes for 1 Hour which is plenty of time to walk around and capture heaps of amazing photos for my couples. If you did want a longer session of say 90 minutes to 2 hours then you could get yourself up to 150 fully edited images.

You can either go for a matching look of neutrals (for example, all white, white and jean, etc.), or mix and match colors that go well together (for example, whites, pinks, blues, etc.). Contrasting outfits also look really good – for example, a light colored top with dark colored pants, or vice versa.

Some couples love an excuse to go all out on a fun, dressed up outfit. Others prefer a more casual, but polished look. It is entirely up to you, but most of my couples choose to wear two outfits at their engagement session. One “us on a cute, casual date” outfit and one more formal outfit.

01 Avoid Small, Close Prints , Patterns and Logos

These tend to not photograph as well. Staying away from small, tight stripes and prints will save your engagement photos! Logos distract from the subject and relationships (aka you & your love story!). Instead, wear solid colored pieces that compliment each other!

If you have a stunning statement neckline or intricate earrings, an updo can help showcase those details. On the other hand, if you have a bohemian-style dress or plan to wear floral accessories, wearing your hair down with loose curls or a braid can complement the overall look.

The best time to take photographs is during the hour before sunset (or the hour after the sun rises, if you're adventurous!) This is when the light is best, and you can get that soft, warm glow in your pictures. Depending on the time of year and your location, this can range from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

With a general recommendation to send save-the-dates about eight months before the wedding (or 12 months for destination weddings), aim to book your engagement shoot several months prior to allow time for your photographer to edit your final gallery.

As a general rule, if you want to be able to use your engagement images for save-the-dates or your wedding website, then you should plan on booking your session no less than 6-8 months before the wedding day.
