Taylor Swift is playing the record-breaking game once again during her show in Munich, but this time it’s not just fans inside the stadium gathering in unheard numbers.
Taylor Swift = Record breaker, and she continues to prove this fact over and over again. With the announcement of her Eras Tour, the website Ticketmaster sold more than two million tickets on the day of release. The platform has said this is the most tickets ever sold for a single artist in one day. Not only that, but her tour has exceeded a record-breaking $1 billion in revenue in 2023, and it predicted to do the same in 2024. While she may put some of her success down to her not-so-secret good luck trick, fans can’t get enough of her relatable lyrics, cryptic messages, and show-stopping outfit-changes. Once again, in Munich, the turn-out has been unheard of, but this time it wasn’t just fans inside the stadium breaking records.
Fans take ‘Taylor-gating’ to the next level
Taylor is currently on the international leg of her tour. The pop sensation played Olympia Stadion in Munich on the 27th and 28th of July, before continuing to Poland, Austria and back to the UK. After the international section, Swift plans to take a break from touring for some much needed-restorative time with her beau Travis Kelce.
Due to popular demand, it’s been notoriously difficult to get hold of tickets for the sold-out Eras Tour. Additionally, priced at $300-500 a go, not every Swiftie has the bank to be able to afford one. Fortunately, in Munich, no ticket didn’t seem to be a problem for thousands of fans.
Olympiaberg (Olympic Hill) perches above the stadium that formerly held the Olympic Games. It has one of the highest elevations in the city boasting a perfect view of the stadium below. It was here that an estimated 50,000 unticketed fans gathered to listen to Tay-Tay’s music from afar over the weekend.
A Munich travel site states that, “For big concerts, the seats up on the Hill are almost as coveted as concert tickets, and they’re free of charge.” Taylor isn’t the only star fans have been ‘sneaking’ a peak at, during Metallica and Rammstein concerts the previous year seats on the mound were also being filled up.

Swifties frequently gather outside Taylor’s concerts to spend time together listening to the music. This practice has been endeared Taylor-gating.
Taylor Swift welcomes Munich fans whether they’re ‘in the stadium or outside’
The roasting 31 degrees in Munich on Saturday did nothing to deter fans from flocking to the stadium and hill. Many arrived with hours to spare to reserve a spot on the grass to watch the show. According to the DPA News Agency, police estimated about 25,000 fans gathered on the hill on Saturday, returning on Sunday.
Additionally, to the insane numbers outside the concert, Swift once again broke “the all-time record for most attended female concert ever” in Munich with nearly 74,000 fans inside the stadium.
During the Sunday show, the Grammy winner thanked fans inside and outside the stadium. A video on X shows her saying, “We are lucky enough to get to play this show for 74,000 beautiful people in this stadium, and if the reports are correct, about 50,000 beautiful people outside the stadium.”
The singer continues to show she cares about her fans whether they paid or not, “Thank you for coming to the Eras Tour, whether you’re in the stadium or outside the stadium. We are so lucky to be here with you.”
The popstar shared a similar gracious sentiment during her Saturday show, in another video shared to X she tells the crowd, “We’ve got people in a park outside the stadium. Thousands of people listening from out there. You have made us feel so incredibly welcome and we’re going to spend all night trying to make it up to you.”
Rather than discouraging the free viewing, the concert organizers also showed their support of all their fans, handing out water and emergency blankets for those wanting to protect themselves from the sun. Legendary.
‘In 20 years they will talk about the Eras Tour like Woodstock’
A video shared to TikTok shows the atmosphere and sheer volume of people occupying that hill. With tens of thousands of people sat, smiling, soaking up the sunshine, while listening to Swift.
Fans are blown away by the numbers commenting, “This is amazing Munich took it to the next level!!” While another fan shares, “The power of Taylor Swift. She fills stadiums and beyond.”
Fans are acknowledging the cultural significance of the Eras Tour with one fan stating, “I swear in 20 years they will talk about eras tour like woodstock.”
