The story of Jinx vs. Vi continues in November
Kat Moon,
Tim SuretteThe first season of Netflix's Arcane, the animated series based on the video game League of Legends, was a smash hit when it dropped at the end of 2021, and for good reason. While your average video game adaptation tends to either go too hard pandering to gamers or go the opposite direction by using the game's premise to make up something completely new and unfamiliar, neither extreme works that well in the long run. But in its first season,Arcane struck a great balance by simply telling a good and accessible story in the League of Legends universe without making it weird. It's not a coincidence that it managed to pull a bunch of Emmys and Annie Awards
Arcaneis set in a Steampunk-influenced alternate world and follows Vi (voiced byHailee Steinfeld) and her younger sister, Jinx (voiced byElla Purnell), who are arch enemies in League of Legends. They started off as loving siblings but, after a tragedy, ended up on opposite sides of a civil war between the wealthy city of Piltover and the slummy underbelly of Zaun. And this conflict is only going to worsen in Arcane Season 2.
Here's everything we know about Arcane Season 2.
When isArcaneSeason 2 coming out?
Arcanewill be back for its second season on Nov. 9. But this won't be your usual Netflix binge drop. Instead, like Season 1, Season 2 of Arcane will release in three weekly installments — while you may be tempted to refer to these installments as "episodes," Netflix refers to them as "acts." Act 2 drops Nov. 16, and the third and final act is Nov. 23.
On June 11, Netflix announced that Arcane will end with Season 2. "From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season," series co-creator Christian Linke said in a League Dev Update. But Linke said Arcane is "just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra."
Arcane Season 2 teasers and trailers
The Season 2 premiere date came courtesy of a slick new trailer that makes use of a new original song from the show's soundtrack by K-Pop group Stray Kids. The OST for Season 2 is looking to be filled with just as many bangers as Season 1's was.
The official teaser for Arcane Season 2 launched on June 11. It teases the explosive fight between the Piltovans and the Zaunites, on a larger scale than anything we saw in Season 1. In the video, Caitlyn Kiramman lays out her three-part plan: "Locate Jinx. Dismantle shimmer. And neutralize any agents still loyal to Silco."
In early January, Netflix released the first teaser for Season 2, offering a short 40-second reminder of theArcane world.
That's Singed, the diabolical doctor from Season 1, in the midst of a blood transfusion (or just extraction?), who checks his pocket watch and looks up to see some dangling monstrosity above him. It's not entirely clear, but everyone's best guess is that the beast is Vander, Vi and Jinx's adoptive father who died in Season 1, who is now being transformed into the undead werewolf Warwick, a playable character from League of Legends.
A video was previously released announcing the upcoming season.
