The Big Take-Two Interactive Game Leaks Explained (2024)

There is no shortage of video game "leaks" on the internet, and the vast majority of them turn out to be complete fabrications. But every once in awhile, a legitimate leak happens to make its way online, and that seems to be the case with the latest big gaming leak. Apparently, some of the games featured inTake-Two Interactive's slate of upcoming titles have leaked, ranging from new entries in established franchises to completely brand new IP.

The leaked Take-Two and 2K Games titles were revealed by Reddit user swine_flu_greg, who learned this information from an unnamed source. The leak didn't gain any traction at first, but then Bloomberg reporter and known industry insider Jason Schreier lent it some credibility. Schreier outright said that the "2K leak is real," though he's unsure if all of the games mentioned will be at E3 2021. Schreier's reputation speaks for itself, and so it's safe to say that the information in the 2K Games leak is legitimate, though some may still want to err on the side of caution and wait for official announcements before they get too excited.

As for when these games from the 2K Games leak could be announced, well, E3 2021 is right around the corner. And not only is E3 on the horizon, but there are presentations confirmed for both Gearbox Software (developer of theBorderlands series, which is part of the leak) as well as Take-Two Interactive. Gearbox has a presentation scheduled for Saturday, June 12, whereas 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive will be making an appearance on Monday, June 14.

While it's unclear if these games will actually be revealed at E3, anyone interested in the following titles may want to make it a point to tune in just in case.

Codename Volt

Arguably the most intriguing game mentioned in the big 2K games leak is also the most mysterious. The leaker believes that the game is in development at Hangar 13, the studio best known for its work on theMafia franchise. The game will reportedly have a logo reminiscent of theFallout franchise and is described as "Cthulhu meetsSaints Row." An H.P. Lovecraft-inspired action game in aSaints Row-style open world certainly sounds promising, though the leaker's source apparently said that the "game looked pretty unfinished" in the trailer that they saw, so it could be quite some time before the project is revealed to the public.

Marvel Strategy Game

Firaxis has built a name for itself for its strategy games, with the studio'sXCOM series earning particular praise. It seems as though Firaxis will be sticking with what it knows with the next game it develops, supposedly known by the codename CODA, as it is said to be anXCOM-style turn-based strategy game starring Marvel characters. Further details on what exactly this Marvel strategy game will entail are unavailable at the time of this writing, though the leaker has said that "famous actors" will be playing the characters. One would assume this could mean that MCU actors are providing voice work for the game, as unlikely as that may sound, so fans will definitely want to stay tuned for more information on this project.

NBA 2K22

A newNBA 2K game is a virtual guarantee, as the series continues to be a major cash cow for the 2K Sports brand. So it's not exactly surprising thatNBA 2K22 is in development, but fans may find the game's supposed cover star interesting. According to the leak, retired Dallas Mavericks player Dirk Nowitzki will beNBA 2K22's cover athlete. Then again, since Nowitzki is retired, another theory is that Nowitzki will instead be on the cover of special editions of the game, as has been done with NBA legends in the past, while a current star will be on the base game cover. TheNBA 2K games are typically revealed around this time in any given year, and with Take-Two Interactive confirmed for E3, there seems to be a solid chance that fans will get their first look at the game sooner rather than later.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

Even thoughBorderlands series developer Gearbox Software has been acquired by Embracer Group, the company is still collaborating with 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive on its blockbuster looter-shooter franchise. WhileBorderlands 3 DLC seems to be done for now, the leaked list of 2K Games in development suggests that fans of the franchise have a new spin-off entry to look forward to in the near future, with a possible reveal coming at E3.

TheBorderlands spin-off game is reportedly calledTiny Tina's Wonderlands, and while it may not have the "Borderlands" name in its title, it will still very much be aBorderlands project. It will reportedly be "the same style" as otherBorderlands games, which means it will be a first-person shooter where players collect a ton of loot and play as four distinct characters, all with their abilities and classes.

This isn't the first time that aBorderlands spin-off game has been rumored. Merely a month ago, there were claims that aBorderlands spin-off was in development at another studio with Gearbox providing support. Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford was quick to shut those rumors down, insisting that any futureBorderlands games would be developed with Gearbox as the lead. Pitchford did not deny the spin-off's existence, however, and with both Gearbox and Take-Two set for E3 appearances, one has to think that the reveal is going to happen real soon.
