Minimum RequirementsEducation: Certification by the State of Georgia in Education SRT4 – SRT7 and content area specialization as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Early Childhood Education (ECE) P-5 and ESOL Endorsem*nt/ESOL P-12 certification, preferred
Middle Grades English Language Arts 4-8 and ESOL Endorsem*nt/ESOL P-12 certification, preferred

High School ESOL
English (ELA) 6-12 certification and ESOL Endorsem*nt/ESOL P-12 Certification, preferred.
High School core content area or P-12 Foreign Language and ESOL Endorsem*nt or P-12 certification
Experience: Successful completion of an accredited teacher training program.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Skills in working effectively with people; effective writing and speaking skills; ability to employ a variety of instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; ability to deal with multiple tasks.
Primary Function: The ESOL Teacher's primary responsibility is to teach, screen, test, monitor, record, and report the progress of English learners (ELs). ESOL teachers instruct English learners at various levels (elementary, middle, or high school) using research-based strategies of language acquisition to maximize opportunities for academic improvement and success.
Performance Responsibilities
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as investigation, group discussion, and presentation where students are inventors and designers of work in which they are authentically engaged.
Meets the school’s student achievement goals and monitoring gains of students by keeping appropriate records.
Participates in professional development opportunities that enhance the school’s continuous improvement plan.
Provides English language assistance services using district approved delivery models for English learners (ELs) at all levels of English language development.
ESOL teachers instruct English learners, using research-based teaching methods and frameworks (e.g. SIOP); and a variety of supplemental resources.
ESOL teachers assign lessons and correct homework; administer assessments; monitor/evaluate achievement progress; and record/share results with faculty, school officials, and parents.
Prepares course outlines and objectives aligned to WIDA Standards and academic language of Georgia Standards of Excellence/Georgia Performance Standards according to state and district requirements. Monitors, prepares, and maintains EL documents related to services, accommodations, and student progress as required by federal, state, and district mandates.
Uses communication and interpersonal skills to satisfactorily interact with students, parents, school personnel, and other stakeholders.
Adheres to school and system procedures and rules with regard to Special Education, SST Plans, and discipline procedures, assessment of students, Section 504 Accommodation Plans, EL-TPCs and Board Guidelines.
Collaborates with general education teachers and provides instructional resources to enhance teaching and learning. Works with support staff to provide the best instructional program for English learners.
Conducts parent/teacher conferences (including EL/TPCs, Reclassification Meetings, etc.) to review EL instructional accommodations, progress, performance, and behavior.
Conducts EL-related professional learning for school staff. Facilitates and/or participates in school events to promote EL parent engagement.
Participates in faculty/professional meetings, conferences, and teacher training workshops.

Teacher Duties and Responsibilities:
Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues.
Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents.
Is available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies.
Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications.
Maintains confidentiality of students and students’ records.
Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
Complies with school system and state administrative regulations and board of education policies.
Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
Is punctual.
Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teachers.
Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records, and files reports promptly.
Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
Demonstrates professional practices in teaching.
Models correct use of language, oral and written.
Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
Implements designated curriculum.
Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
Assigns reasonable tasks and homework for students.

Itinerant ESOL teachers must travel to multiple schools daily to provide ESOL services.
Performs other duties and responsibilities prescribed by the school system and/or school.
